CNC GETS MAIDEN AUDIT COMMITTEE

The Audit Committee of the Centre for National Culture (CNC) was inaugurated on 20th October, 2022 by Dr. E. O. Osae, Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency.

Mrs. Alice Alima Kala, the Director of CNC welcomed all to the Centre and gave a brief on the purpose of the meeting.

Dr. Osae in his address, congratulated members for agreeing to serve Mother Ghana on the Centre’s Audit Committee. He noted that as the first Audit Committee for the Centre, the success of the Centre was dependent on them, and it behooves on members to support the institution deliver on its mandate. Dr. Osae informed the meeting that a special investigative team was sent to the Centre to investigate the control weaknesses at the Centre and why no reports were being submitted to the Agency from them before the Committee’s coming in as a control measure.

The Director-General outlined the three (3) roles of the Committee as mandatory, advisory and supporting. On the mandatory roles, he said members are to ensure the Centre prepares an Internal Audit Workplan and Internal Audit Reports on a quarterly basis and submit to the Agency. They are also to prepare an Annual Report and submit copies to the Office of the President, Parliament, the Auditor-General and the Director-General of the IAA. Speaking on the advisory roles, Dr. Osae encouraged members to draw the attention of Management to breaches of the law and ensure that controls are adhered to. He tasked members to bring their expertise on board to prevent violation of the law that would attract external audit queries.

On the supporting roles, members were encouraged to support the Internal Audit Unit deliver on its mandate of providing advisory and assurance services. He tasked members to work with Management to support the Internal Audit Unit conduct its audits on a quarterly basis. Dr. Osae noted that as a new Committee, it had a lot to do as no report has been submitted from the Centre. Members were encouraged to ensure that the 3rd Quarter Internal Audit Report of the Centre due on 31st October is submitted.

The Director-General tasked Management to give members an orientation on the activities of the Centre to enable them understand its business and be able to support it effectively. He tasked members to give off their best as building strong institutions would go a long way to build a better Country.

Mr. Kingsley Gyiru, giving the closing remarks on behalf of the Executive Director of the National Commission on Culture (NCC), Madam Janet Edna Nyame said he was excited at the inauguration of the Audit Committee as there had been so many lapses at the Centre. He expressed the hope that with the coming in of Audit Committee, visits to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) would be a thing of the past and the expertise brought by members would bring the Centre to the limelight.

Members of the Committee are Mr. Henry Nii Sackey Quarcoopome (Rep of ICAG and Chairman of the Committee), Mrs. Sylvia Amoro (ICAG Rep) and Mr. Samuel Gyekye Mensah (IAA Rep). Solomon Adotei Mensah and Kizito Nii Amarh Amartey are representatives of the Centre for National Culture.
