The Audit Committee of the Ghana Commodities Exchange was inaugurated on 23rd February, 2023 by Mr. Alhassan Fuseini on behalf of the Director- General, Dr. E.O. Osae.
Mr. Kofi Yamoah, Board Chairman of GCX in his opening address spoke on the purpose of the programme.
Mr. Alhassan in an address delivered on behalf of Dr. Osae stated that, the key role of the Public Financial Management Act is ensuring transparency and accountability in the governance of the country. He mentioned the three roles of the Committee as mandatory, advisory and supporting. On the mandatory role, Mr. Alhassan informed members of their role in ensuring the implementation of recommendations in Internal and External Audit reports, Management Letter of the Auditor-General and directives from the PAC of Parliament. The Committee, Mr. Alhassan said, is also required to submit an annual report on their activities. He commended the composition of the Committee and indicated his trust in its capability of ensuring good delivery of GCX’s mandate.
On the advisory role, the Committee is to ensure risk-based audit practices in the institution, advise on internal controls and governance processes. Mr. Alhassan encouraged members to ensure compliance with the laws of the Country. On the supporting role, members are to support the Internal Audit Department deliver on its mandate. He tasked members to interact with staff of the Department and ensure needed logistics are provided.
Mr. Alhassan concluded by informing members of directives issued by the Agency and charged them to support Management in ensuring adherence.
Mrs. Tucci Goka Ivowi, Chief Executive of GCX in her closing remarks, said it was a privilege to have the Committee inaugurated. She added that the nature of the operations of GCX required professionalism and transparency and appreciated the membership of the Committee. She assured the support Management to the work of the Committee.
Members of the Committee are Mr. Fiifi Kwakye (Rep. of the IAA Board and Chairman), Dr. Eric Oduro Osae (IAA Rep), Dr. Julius Aikins Hawkson (ICAG Rep). Mr. Stephen Antwi-Asimeng and Mr. Vitus Otto Ninfaakang are representatives of GCX. Â Mrs. Jemimah Oppong Gyamfi is secretary to the Committee.
