The Audit Committee of the National Radiotherapy, Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Centre was on 21st February, 2023 inaugurated at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital by Dr. E. O. Osae, Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency
Members of the Committee are Mr. Yaw Asare (ICAG Rep and Chairman), Mrs. Patience Austin (IAA Rep), Mrs. Gertrude Appiah (ICAG Rep). Mr. Kingsley Aidoo and Mrs. Sabina Naa Dei Kotei are the representative of the Hospital and Secretary to the Committee respectively.
The Administrator of the Centre, Dr. Yaw Appiah in his opening address shared on the history and mandate of the Centre. He also shared on some of the challenges faced by the Centre.
Dr. E. O. Osae in his address stated that all institutions have their uniqueness and members in the bid to perform their mandate should bear that in mind. He advised members to ensure lives are saved in the performance of their mandate. He informed the Committee of their mandatory, advisory and supporting roles as spelt out in the PFM Act. On the mandatory role, Dr. Osae said members are to ensure the Centre has a risk-based plan that has the physical/financial and operational risk of the Centre. This he said, will help Management to appreciate the risk areas of the Centre. Members are also to ensure they work with the Internal Auditor to come out with a quarterly process review of the Centre with findings and recommendations and work with Management to implement recommendations. The Committee is to prepare and submit an annual report on its activities. Copies of this report, Dr. Osae stated should be submitted to the Office of the President, Parliament, the Auditor-General and the Director-General of the internal Audit Agency.
On the advisory role, members were encouraged to provide advisory services so Management do not violate the laws of the country in executing their functions. He encouraged Management to organize an orientation for the Committee to appreciate the work of the Centre. He tasked the Committee to give its support to the Internal Audit Unit and ensure recommendations raised in reports are implemented.
Dr. Osae in concluding, congratulated members for accepting to serve on the Committee.
Dr. Appiah in his closing remarks assured members of Management’s cooperation and support.
