EXECUTIVES OF IIA PAY A COURTESY CALL TO IAA

On 16th March, 2023, Executives of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Ghana paid a courtesy call on the Agency to discuss growth of the Institute and its upcoming African Confederation Conference. The seven-member team led by Madam Harriet Akua Karikari, President of the Institute pointed out that the team would like to build a rapport with the Agency.

She added that the Internal Audit Agency being the parent organization of Internal Auditors in the public sector is a key stakeholder of the Institute of Internal Auditors Ghana. Lauding the great strides made by the Agency, she mentioned that the Agency is currently on a pedestal that has brought internal auditing to the limelight. She stated that the Conference will be held in Ghana at the Accra International Conference Centre. Dignitaries invited include the Director-General of the State Interests Governance Authority (SIGA) and the Chief of Staff of the Republic of Ghana.

She emphasized the importance of the Institute collaborating with the Agency. Briefing the meeting, she stated that the Conference will run a concurrent programme featuring an African University which will focus on training participants in technical competency, quality assurance and data analysis. These sessions will be facilitated by experts from countries such as Uganda and Australia. She added that members of the Institute of Internal Auditors Global, including its executives will be in attendance and encouraged staff of the Agency to attend the Conference.

Highlighting the role the Agency will play in the University, she stated that the Agency will assist the Institute to evaluate value addition.A discussion of qualifications of internal auditors saw the Director- General advising the need for the Chartered Internal Auditors’ (CIA) professional qualification. This, he said will prevent it from being equated to the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG) qualification.

Management of the Agency commended the Institute and discussed capacity building methods for internal auditors and the performance of its members on Audit Committees.

The Director- General thanked the Executives of IIA for their visit and expressed the hope for future collaborations to develop the Internal Audit Practice in Ghana.
