The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) in collaboration with the Internal Audit Agency will be commencing a Nationwide Payroll Monitoring Exercise. The exercise is aimed at sanitizing Public Sector Payroll by identifying and removing existing anomalies from government payroll to ensure only approved salaries and allowances are paid to employees.
In line with this, the Commission commenced the monitoring exercise at the Agency. The FWSC scheduled a press conference for the media to witness the exercise at the premises of the Internal Audit Agency on 3rd April, 2023.The Executive Secretary of FWSC Ben Arthur shared on the modalities of the exercise and cautioned that sanctions will be applied to culprits found to be earning undeserved salaries. He advised culprits to ensure refunds are made before the law catches up with them.
Dr. E.O Osae, Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency also shared on ways the government payroll has been bloated. He mentioned ghost names, use of government vehicle for private purposes, receiving fuel and maintenance allowances with fake documents among others.
