MEETING WITH THE EXECUTIVES OF THE ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN ACCOUNTANTS IN GHANA (AWAG)

On Monday, June 12, 2023, the executives of AWAG paid a courtesy call on the Agency to introduce it’s executives and discuss possible collaborations with their outfit. The six-member team led by Mrs. Patience Mawushie Dzikunoo, the president of AWAG mentioned that the team would like to familiarize itself with the activities of the Agency.

The Director-General, Dr. Dr. E.O. Osae and his Management exchanged pleasantries and warmly welcomed them to the Agency. The Director-General briefed the team on steps being taken to empower the women in Internal Auditing in the entire nation. He also talked about the collaborations the Agency have with institutions namely; National Development Planning Commission, Public Procurement Authority, Ministry of Finance, Controller and Accountant General Dept. and Ghana Audit Service that support the effective operation of the PFM.

The Director-General also highlighted the following;

  1. The status of the IAA bill
  2. Collaborations with IIA Ghana in the practice of Internal Auditing
  3. The establishment of Audit Committees in all Covered Entities
  4. Interventions in place to support Government in it’s operations

Dr. Osae also touched on the restructuring of public sector internal audit to enhance professionalism and explained the following:

  1. Implementation of Risk Based Internal Audit
  2. Mainstreaming of Enterprise Risk Management
  3. Resolving Dual Reporting System of State-Owned Enterprises
  4. Adoption of the Integrated Professional Practice Framework (IPPF) to Guide Performance

He was hopeful that the Agency will forge a collaboration with AWAG to facilitate capacity building of Internal Audit Units and their respective Audit Committees. Other Management staff were present and expressed their gratitude for AWAG’s interest in the Agency’s cause and pledged to avail themselves to facilitate a successful collaboration.

Mrs. Patience Mawushie Dzikunoo also expressed her gratitude for the welcome and recognition of women in Accounting. She mentioned there would be activities lined up to be undertaken as AWAG marks 30 years in 2024.

The president informed the Agency of activities they undertake as an association and requested for support.

  1. Organisations of CPDs for members and Non-members.
  2. Promoting and getting more women in accounting.
  3. Mentorship and grooming young once through outreach programs.
  4. Partnership with the Makola Women Foundation to educate them on to manage their finances and accounts.
  5. Corporate Social Responsibilities.

The Director- General thanked the team for their visit and expressed his hope of a future collaboration with AWAG.
