Dr. E. O. Osae inaugurated the Audit Committee of the Council for Law Reporting on the 30th May, 2024 at the Board room of the Council.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Council, Mrs. Margaret Awuku-Gyekye welcomed all to the programme. She gave a brief introduction on the establishment and mandate of the Council. Mrs. Awuku-Gyekye said the Council prepares and publishes official law reports of Ghana containing judgements, rulings and opinions of the Superior Courts of Ghana.
She spoke on the importance of law reporting and its benefits to the law profession as significant judgments are documented for precedence. The Chief Executive added that the publications of the Council help in the effective functioning of the judiciary, Bar, Academia, the legal profession and the general justice delivery in Ghana. She thanked the members for availing themselves to serve on the Committee and provide adequate oversight and assured her support.
Dr. E.O. Osae in his address, shared the three roles of the Committee as Mandatory, Advisory and Supporting. On the Mandatory role, he said the committee is to ensure the implementation of audit recommendations in External and Internal Audit reports and submit an annual report on its activities to the Office of the President, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament, the Auditor-General and the Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency.
Dr. Osae encouraged them to ensure the submission of the 2023 Annual report of the Committee on 30th June even though they were now being sworn in as a committee. He advised that the report is reviewed thoroughly before it is sent out as it becomes accessible to all as soon as it gets out there.
On the advisory role the Director-General advised the committee to support the Council in complying with governance laws and regulations. He tasked them to review the system and ensure justice delivery is adequately achieved. The committee he said, is also to support the Internal Audit unit to deliver on its mandate timely. Dr. Osae advised on an orientation for members of the committee to enable them appreciate the work processes of the Council.
Concluding his address, the Director-General tasked the committee to support Management in achieving the mandate of the Council. He encouraged them to advise on administrative lapses before External Auditors come in and thanked them for accepting to serve on the Council’s Committee and tasked them support it with their expertise.
The Chief Executive Officer in her closing remarks congratulated the newly sworn in members and thanked the outgone committee for their support to the Council. She reiterated the council’s support to the committee and wished them a successful tenure.
