Dr. E. O. Osae, the Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency, inaugurated the Audit Committee of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) at the organization’s Conference Room on Thursday, 27th June 2024.
The Director of Administration, (NADMO) Mr. Benjamin Owusu Afriyie on behalf of the Director-General, warmly welcomed the committee members and expressed appreciation to both the outgoing and incoming committees. He acknowledged the outgoing committee’s efforts in resource management and preventing the organization from appearing before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). He also commended the Director-General for his guidance and support.
Addressing the forum, Dr. Osae highlighted the three key functions of the Audit Committee as Mandatory, Advisory, and Supporting. He clarified that the mandatory role involves assisting the institution in establishing robust internal controls and ensure the efficient use of Public funds. The committee is also required to submit its mandated Annual report to the Office of the President, Parliament and all relevant institutions.
The Director-General tasked members of the committee to avail themselves for entrance and exit meetings to address issues raised by External Audits in their draft report and support the Internal Audit Directorate in delivering on its mandate.
Regarding the advisory role, Dr. Osae emphasized the preventive aspect of Internal Auditing and the importance of the Audit Committee in implementing Enterprise Risk Management within its internal audit processes to mitigate risks. He added that management should provide the necessary logistics to enable the committee members work effectively.
Dr. Osae extended his sincere appreciation to the Audit Committee members for their willingness to serve Mother Ghana
The inauguration concluded with remarks from the outgoing Audit Committee Chairman who thanked the members for their dedication in upholding key governance principles. He expressed gratitude to the Director-General and Management for their support.
In his closing remarks, the Director of Administration assured the support of Management at all times.
The members of the Audit Committee are Mrs. Elikplim Kartey (Chairman and ICAG Rep) and Mr. Isaac Kwadjo Buabeng (IAA Rep). Ms. Esther Owusu and Mr. Ampadu Hayford. Kwame Kwakye are representatives of NADMO. Mr. Ernest Kusi-Duah is the Secretary to the Committee.
