The Audit Committee of the Environmental Protection Agency was inaugurated by Mr. Senanu Mensah on behalf of Dr. Oduro Osae, Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency (IAA) on Friday, 29th November 2024 in their Board Room of the Agency.
A representative of the Executive Director welcomed all attendees and emphasized the crucial role of the Audit Committee (AC) in ensuring accountability, transparency, and good governance within the organization.
Prof. Kwasi Appeaning Addo, Board Chairman of the EPA, expressed his recognition and importance of the Audit Committee and acknowledged its valuable contributions. He emphasized his strong belief and hope that the inauguration would enable the EPA fulfill its mandate and enhance its operations. The Board Chairman also assured the Committee that the Board would continue to support its efforts.
Mr. Martin Adjei, Chairman of the Audit Committee, expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to serve. He thanked Management for their support and pledged to work diligently to help the EPA reach new heights. He noted outstanding issues that needed urgent resolution and hoped that the passage of the EPA Bill would expedite certain processes.
Mr. Senanu Mensah in a speech read on behalf of the Director-General  addressed the Mandatory and Advisory roles of the Audit Committee. He encouraged members to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and policies and assess the internal controls, governance processes, and risk management practices of the EPA.
Mr. Senanu Mensah informed the meeting on the adoption of the Global Internal Audit Standards and it’s alignment to the Internal Audit Charter. He noted the ongoing workshop at the Agency training Public Sector Internal Auditors on the New Charter Template designed by the Agency to harmonize and standardize Internal Audit Charters across the public sector.
In his closing remarks, Prof. Kwasi Appeaning Addo thanked the Committee members for their hard work and effective execution of their task in their first term. He expressed gratitude for their dedication to the EPA and looked forward to maintaining a cordial relationship and continued engagement.
