The Audit Committee of the National Schools Inspectorate Authority was inaugurated on the 10th November, 2022 by Dr. E. O. Osae, Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency. Mrs. Hagar Hilda Ampadu, Inspector-General of Schools was the Chairperson at the event.
Members of the Audit Committee are Mr. Dickson Osei Atakora (ICAG Rep and Chairman of the Committee), Mr. Martin Adjei (IAA Rep), Mrs. Rita Sarkodie Baffoe (IAA Rep). COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah and Dr. Christian Adde Poku are both Board representatives of NaSIA. Mrs. Marie A. Boateng is the Secretary of the Committee.
Dr. Osae enumerated the three roles of the Audit Committee in his address as mandatory, advisory and supporting. He stated that the Audit Committee is a Statutory Committee established under the Public Financial Management (PFM)Act. He tasked members of the Committee to put in place good systems and informed them of their mandatory requirement to annually submit a report to the office of the President and to copy Parliament, the Auditor-General and Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency.
On the advisory role, the Committee was advised to support the Authority to comply with the PFM Act, put their professional audit expertise at the Authority’s disposal and help leadership develop a Risk Management Policy and an Audit Charter if there was none.
The Committee on its supporting role is to provide adequate technical support to the Internal Audit Unit to enable it deliver on its mandate. Dr. Osae advised that under no circumstance should any adverse issue be reported about the Authority by External Auditors. He encouraged members to work with Management and the Internal Audit Unit to resolve all issues before admitting External Auditors.
Mrs. Ampadu in her closing remarks expressed her gratitude to the Director-General for honoring the invitation to inaugurate the Committee himself. She assured the support and cooperation of Management to the Committee.
