The Audit Committee of the Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Koforidua (NMTC-K) was inaugurated on 23rd March, 2023 by Mr. Hayford Douwuna-Hammond on behalf of the Director-General, Dr. Eric Oduro Osae.
The Principal, Hajia Mary Lamisi Bozombil, chaired the event. In her opening remarks, she gave a brief background of the Training College. She stated that the institution was established in 1964 and as such, next year marks its 60th anniversary. She invited the meeting to join in the anniversary celebration. She acknowledged the essence of compliance with the Public Financial Management Act 2016, (Act 921) and the need to appoint new members to the institution’s Audit Committee.
Delivering Dr. Osae’s speech, Mr. Dowuona-Hammond stated that the Audit Committee is a Statutory Committee established under the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921) and its roles which are, mandatory, advisory, and supporting are provided for under Section 86 (1) of the PFM Act. He mentioned that the mandatory roles include pursuing Management to implement recommendations in internal and external audit reports, monitoring reports, and directives from PAC. The Committee is also required to prepare and submit an annual report including the annual statement of status of implementation.
The advisory roles of the Committee, Mr. Dowuona-Hammond noted, include providing advice to Management on financial and risk management practices, internal control and governance processes and compliance with laws, regulations, and policies. On the supporting roles, he stated that the Committee is required to assist staff of the Internal Audit Unit in the preparation and submission of required reports.
Mr. Dowuona-Hammond in concluding, stated that the Audit Committee is very important in the governance of the institution and as such, requires the support of Management and all key stakeholders to execute its mandate.
Hajia Bozombil thanked the past Committee for the good work done in shaping the financial management of the institution and expressed the hope that the new Committee performs better. She assured new members that all resources needed for the efficient execution of their mandate would be made available and encouraged them to give off their best.
Members of the Committee are Dr. Evans Agalega (ICAG Rep and Chairman of the Committee), Mr. Awuni Akyireba (IAA Rep), Mr. Kwame Yanney and Madam Evelyn Ayerko Appiah are NMTC-K Reps and Ms. Bertha Oprew is Secretary to the Committee.
