Mr. Alhassan Fuseini, representing the Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency, inaugurated the Audit Committee of the National Population Council on 13th February, 2024.
Dr. Leticia Adelaide Appiah, the Executive Director of the National Population Council, extended a warm welcome to all attendees in her opening remarks at the NPC. She expressed gratitude to the members for their commitment to serving on the Audit Committee of the institution. Dr. Appiah expressed her satisfaction in inaugurating the Audit Committee as a crucial step towards promoting good corporate governance within the organization.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Wilson, the Chairman of the Committee, expressed his gratitude to his colleagues for entrusting him with the role. He conveyed his hope and prayers for the Committee to contribute effectively towards fulfilling the organization’s mandate.
Mr. Fuseini addressing the programme emphasized the roles of the Audit Committee as mandated by the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921) and the Guidelines for effective functioning of Audit Committees, 2023. He described the Committee’s responsibilities, which included establishing internal controls, scrutinizing parliamentary reports, and promptly submitting required reports.
Highlighting the advisory function, Mr. Fuseini emphasized the preventive aspect of Internal Auditing, urging the Audit Committees to assist in implementing Enterprise Risk Management for effective risk mitigation. He further appealed to the committee to actively contribute to fulfilling the institution’s mandate.
Mr. Fuseini in conclusion, expressed his profound gratitude to the Committee for accepting the responsibility to serve.
