The Audit Committee of the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB) was inaugurated by Mr. Alhassan Fuseini on behalf of Dr. E.O Osae, Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency (IAA) on Friday, 27th September 2024 at the Conference room of the Bureau.
The Commissioner of AIB, Mr. Akwesi Agyeibi Prempeh, welcomed all to the Inauguration and outlined AIB’s mandate as established in 2020. AIB he said, is responsible for investigating, managing, preventing, and overseeing aircraft accidents and incidents. He noted the Bureau’s independence and shared with the meeting four investigations the Bureau has been able to complete as at date.
Mr. Alhassan addressing the meeting, emphasized on the three key functions of the Audit Committee as defined by the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921) indicating the Mandatory role; Advisory role and Support role.
Speaking on the Mandatory role, he shared on the requirement on the Committee to ensure implementation of recommendations raised in Internal Audit reports, External Audit Reports directives from the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament as well as Monitoring reports of the Bureau that had financial Implications.  The Committee he informed were also as part of their mandate to submit an Annual Report on its activities to the Office of the President, Parliament, the Auditor-General and the Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency.
On the Advisory role, the committee is to ensure effective controls are in place and monitor compliance. Mr. Alhassan noted the diverse expertise of the members and encouraged them to support the Bureau meet its obligations under the Public Financial Management Act. He tasked Management to orient members of the Committee on the activities of the AIB to enable them deliver effectively on their mandate.
The Commissioner thanked members of the Committee for agreeing to serve the Bureau and assured them of Management’s unwavering support at all times. He shared copies of the Acts and Regulations governing AIB with the Committee.
Members of the Audit Committee are Nana Ofori-Atta Kena (Chairman, IAA Rep), Mrs. Patience Mawushie Dzikunoo (IAA Rep), Madam Patience Naa Gyampinah Appiah (ICAG Rep). Mr. Derrick Amaning Kwarteng (Member), Ms. Sandra Sena Dokpoe is the Secretary to the Committee.
