GDCA PAYS A VISIT IAA

A three-member technical delegation from the Ghana Developing Communities Association (GDCA), a non-governmental organization focused on community development in Northern Ghana, paid a visit to the Internal Audit Agency (IAA) on 23rd July, 2023. Members of the team are Mr. Philip Gmabi, leader of the delegation, Madam Evita Emma Dunee, Technical Advisor and Mr. Mohammed Sadat Sulemana, Advocacy Officer.

The purpose of the visit was to seek collaboration with the Agency to improve the functionality of Audit Committees at the local level, specifically, at the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembly level under the Empowerment for Life Programme (E4L). Mr.Gmabi explained that by strengthening the relationship between the Agency and GDCA through a collaborative effort, the latter can leverage on the technical expertise of the former. The delegation intimated that the ultimate aim of the Association is to ensure the sustainability of Audit Committees at the district level.

The delegation informed the meeting that the Association is currently working with Audit Committees in ten (10) Districts in three (3) Regions, North, North-east and Savannah to promote transparency and accountability at the district level.

In his speech, the Ag. Director-General indicated the development of a Memorandum of Understanding between the IAA and GDCA. He further requested detailing of the role of IAA with regards to the functionality of Audit Committees in the selected districts. He finally requested the delegation to share with IAA, institutions the GDCA distribute reports to and the extent to which the Association is able to commit Government to act on the reports.
