On 24th March 2026, the Deputy Director overseeing the Office of the Director-General, Mr. Hayford Dowuona-Hammond, acting on behalf of the Ag. Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency (IAA), Mr. Thomas A. Thompson-Aryee, administered the oath of office to the maiden Audit Committee of the Traditional Medicine Practice Council (TMPC). The event was graced by the Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, Dr. (MH) Yakubu Tobor Yusuf, and the Administrative Secretary, Dr. Evelyn Abayaa Issah.
In his opening remarks, Dr. (MH) Yusuf explained that the inauguration of the Council’s Audit Committee was mandated to ensure the TMPC operates efficiently and in full compliance with statutory regulations.
In a speech delivered on behalf of the Ag. Director-General of the IAA, Mr. Dowuona-Hammond, outlined the mandatory and advisory roles, as well as the functions and authority of the Audit Committee, as stipulated in Sections 86–88 of the Public Financial Management (PFM) Act, 2016 (Act 921).
According to Mr. Dowuona-Hammond, the Committee’s advisory responsibilities include guiding Management on financial matters, risk management, and internal processes. He added that, as part of its mandatory duties, the Committee is required to review statutory reports.
In conclusion, Mr. Dowuona-Hammond encouraged Management to collaborate with the IAA to organize an orientation for TMPC’s leadership on the provisions of the PFM Act.
