Mr. Conrad Z. Dumbah, Acting Director-General of IAA, officiated the swearing-in of the Audit Committee of the National Labour Commission (NLC) on 30th September 2026. The Executive Secretary of the NLC, Dr. (Mrs.) Bernice Welbeck chaired the occasion.
In her opening remarks, Dr. (Mrs.) Welbeck highlighted the importance of the institution of the Audit Committee in ensuring financial prudence and thereby playing a significant and strategic role in the operations of the Commission. She also highlighted the Committee’s role in supporting the NLC to ensure its operations remain compliant with applicable laws and regulations. She assured members of the Commission’s full commitment to providing the necessary support to facilitate the Committee’s successful execution of its mandate.
In his remarks, Mr. Dumbah emphasised the importance of collaboration between the Audit Committee and Management in ensuring the success of the Commission. He assured members that the Internal Audit Agency (IAA) remains available to provide training on the requirements of the PFM Act, should the need arise. He further expressed the Agency’s commitment to building a strong and trusted assurance partnership with the Commission.
Following the swearing-in, Mrs. Josephine Opoku Agyemang was elected Chairperson of the Audit Committee. In her acceptance remarks, she expressed gratitude for the nomination and stressed that the team will work collaboratively to maintain the good image of the NLC and ensure that the Commission does not appear before the Public Accounts Committee.
In closing, the Executive Secretary reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to providing the incoming Committee with the necessary support and resources to effectively carry out its mandate. He expressed Management’s readiness to work closely with the Committee and encouraged members to promptly bring any emerging issues or concerns to Management’s attention for appropriate action.
