IAA Inaugurates Maiden Audit Committee of GIHOC Distilleries

The Deputy Director-General in charge of Technical and Field Operations (TFO) of IAA, Dr. Cynthia Ayorkor Sallah, inaugurated the maiden Audit Committee of the Ghana Industrial Holding Corporation (GIHOC) Distilleries Company Limited on 12th October 2026.

In her address, Dr. Sallah emphasised the need to set the right tone at the top to promote accountability and sound governance. She urged the Committee to ensure the implementation of audit recommendations, identify the root causes of recurring infractions and strengthen internal controls to help prevent their recurrence.

She also stressed the need to hold the four mandatory meetings annually, review reports in preparation for parliamentary scrutiny and ensure compliance with statutory reporting requirements. She noted that the Committee should complement, rather than oppose or replace, management.

The Chief Executive Officer of GIHOC Distilleries, Jones Nii Borteye Applerh, Esq., described the inauguration as an important step towards improving financial management and strengthening internal controls. He stressed that auditing should be viewed as an opportunity to correct mistakes, promote accountability and improve the Company’s operations, rather than merely finding faults. He added that the goal should go beyond passing audits to building a stronger, more profitable Company, and pledged management’s support for the Committee.

Following the inauguration, Mrs. Philomina Sulley Dodoo was elected Chairperson of the Committee. In her acceptance speech, she pledged to work with other Committee members to strengthen internal controls within the Company.

The Board Chairman, Mr. Henry Annor Boakye-Yiadom, described the inauguration as a significant milestone for the Company and urged members to discharge their duties with integrity, fairness, diligence and professionalism. He called on the Committee to ensure that audit findings are addressed promptly, risks are reduced and sound financial management is maintained in the interest of GIHOC.
