INTERNAL AUDIT STAFF OF THE GHANA WATER COMPANY TRAINED IN IS AUDIT

The Information Systems Audit (IS) unit of the Internal Audit Agency recently responded to a request to conduct a comprehensive training session for the internal audit staff of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL). This training took place over a span of two days, from October 4th to October 5th, 2023, and was held at the PUWU Hotel’s conference room at Kasoa.

Ms. Sedina Klutse, the Head of the IS Audit unit led the training with the support of Christian Barimah Adinkrah, an Assistant Manager of the unit. The training covered a range of crucial topics essential for auditing information systems effectively. These topics included:

Introduction of IT Auditing: Participants were given an overview of the fundamentals of IT auditing, laying the foundation for the subsequent topics.

IT Audit Process: This section delved into the systematic approach and procedures involved in conducting IT audits, ensuring that staff gained a clear understanding of the process.

IT Controls Testing Approach: Participants learned about the methodologies and techniques employed to evaluate the effectiveness of IT controls within an organization.

IT Controls: An in-depth examination of IT controls, their significance, and their application within the context of information systems audits.

Auditing Application and General Controls: This segment addressed the specifics of auditing application controls, as well as the broader spectrum of general controls, both critical areas for information systems audits.

Documentation and Reporting: The training emphasized the importance of thorough documentation and the process of preparing comprehensive audit reports to communicate findings effectively to Management.

The two-day training session equipped the internal audit staff of the Ghana Water Company Limited with valuable insights and practical knowledge required to conduct information systems audits effectively.
