The Race for Good Governance is on: NIA Ushers in a New Audit Committee

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has sworn in its newly constituted Audit Committee in furtherance of its commitment to strengthening accountability, transparency, and good governance within the Authority.

The ceremony, held on 30th September 2026, was conducted by Mr. Conrad Z. Dumbah, Acting Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency (IAA). Mr. Wisdom Kwaku Deku, Executive Secretary of the NIA, together with members of Management, attended the ceremony and witnessed the formal induction of the Committee. Mr. Deku reaffirmed Management’s readiness to support the Committee in fulfilling its obligation.

Mr. Ransford Agyei, former Director-General of the IAA and representative of the Agency, was elected Chairperson of the Committee. In his acceptance remarks, he expressed the Committee’s commitment to working jointly to further the interests of the NIA and contribute to the broader development of Ghana.

The Acting Director-General expressed his appreciation for the calibre of the Committee, describing its members as the “crème de la crème” of the audit, accounting and finance profession. He encouraged members to draw on their wealth of experience and expertise to make meaningful contributions to the Committee’s work.

He further emphasised that the Audit Committee serves as a critical supporting pillar at the heart of good governance, stressing the importance of its role in strengthening accountability, transparency, and effective oversight. He stressed that the role of the Audit Committee is not merely to critique, but to serve as a value-adding mechanism that strengthens internal controls. He noted that the Committee plays an important role in ensuring that identified infractions are addressed promptly, preventing them from escalating into matters of public concern.

In his closing remarks, the Executive Secretary expressed his appreciation to Mr. Dumbah for taking time out of his busy schedule to grace the occasion. He further reiterated Management’s commitment to continuous improvement and stated his openness to guidance and constructive advice that would contribute to improving the operations of NIA.
