IAA INAUGURATES THE AUDIT COMMITTEE OF THE MDC

Mrs. Marian Deladem Ofosu-Dankyi, Director HR and Administration on behalf of the Director-General inaugurated the Audit Committee of the Medical and Dental Council on 9th December, 2022. In attendance at the event were the Chairman of the Council, Prof. Paul Kwame Nyame and the Registrar, Dr. Divine Ndonbi Banyubala.

Members of the Committee are Mr. Isaac Amartey (IAA Rep and Chairman), Mr. Eric Nyarko (ICAG Rep), Mrs. Philomina S. Max-Bobie (IAA Rep), Mr. Samuel Adjepong and Dr. Ernest Yorke are representatives of the MDC Board. Madam Adelaide Ashie is the Secretary of the Committee.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Nyame thanked the past Committee for the good work it did. He stressed that, that no serious infractions were reported by the Auditor-General on the Council was as a result of the Committee’s support. He thanked members for accepting to serve on the Committee. He added that the Audit Committee is a necessary mechanism to ensure the smooth running of the institution.

Delivering the Director-General’s address, Mrs. Ofosu-Dankyi stated that the Audit Committee is a requirement of the PFM which is key to transparent and accountable governance. She enumerated the functions of the Committee as mandatory, advisory and supporting. The mandatory roles according to Mrs. Ofosu-Dankyi include the Committee pursuing the Registrar of the Council to implement recommendations from Internal and External Audit Reports, especially those that border on financial matters. It also includes the preparation of an annual statement showing the status of implementation of audit recommendations.

The advisory roles of the Committee, Mrs. Ofosu-Dankyi mentioned, are provided under paragraph 8.2 of the Guidelines on Audit Committees. They include the provision of advice on financial and risk management practices, internal control and governance processes and compliance with Laws, Regulations and Policies.  The supporting roles of the Committee include helping the Internal Audit Unit in the preparation and submission of quarterly internal audit reports.

In concluding, Mrs. Ofosu-Dankyi said the Audit Committee is very important in the governance of MDC and requires the support of Management and all key stakeholders to execute their mandate. She entreated the Committee to work together with Management and all stakeholders as partners in development towards accomplishing efficient management of public funds.
