On 9th October, 2025, the Ag. Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency (IAA) inaugurated the Audit Committee of the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC). The Chairperson for the inauguration was Prof. Wilberforce Dzisah, Chairman of the Governing Council of the University.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Eric Opoku Mensah, in his opening remarks, said the establishment of the Audit Committee is prescribed by law. He continued that with the formation of a new Governing Council for UNIMAC, there was the need for the reconstitution of the institution’s Audit Committee.
Mr. Dzakpasu, a representative of the Internal Audit Agency, was elected chairperson of the Committee. He assured Management of the University that he would work diligently with his colleagues to ensure transparency and accountability as well as assist in mitigating risks and monitoring internal controls in the institution.
The Ag. Director-General, in delivering his speech, stated that the Audit Committee is a statutory institution and implored Management to support both the Committee and the Internal Audit Function (IAF), as they are there to add value to the operations of the institution.
Mr. Thompson-Aryee alluded to current reforms such as the amendment of the PFM Act to incorporate the Oaths of Office and Secrecy. He mentioned the Commitment Control Compliance Checklist (CCCC), which requires institutions to seek Commitment Authorization from the Ministry of Finance for procurement transactions that are above the threshold of the Entity Tender Committee (ETC) or that would require approval by the PPA Board.
He also hinted at the support the World Bank is giving to the government to ensure that at least 51% of audit recommendations are implemented. He urged the members to work in a manner that would make their impact recognizable. Concluding, the Ag. Director-General informed the meeting about the publication of the Public Financial Management Compliance League Table (PFMCLT) by the Ministry of Finance and entreated Management to ensure the submission of CCCR reports to avoid defaulting.
