Mr. Alhassan Fuseini, Deputy Director in charge of the Projects Monitoring and Coordination Unit (PMCU) on behalf of the Ag. Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency (IAA), Mr. Thomas A. Thompson-Aryee, swore in the Audit Committee of the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) on 22nd December, 2025.
The inauguration was attended by the Director-General of GMA, Dr. Kamal-Deen Ali, along with his Deputy, Mr. Mubarick Masawudu. In his opening remarks, Dr. Ali described the Audit Committee as a key pillar in strengthening good governance within the institution. He added that the Committee is tasked with ensuring regulatory compliance and providing guidance to help GMA meet broader governance expectations.
He expressed his gratitude to the outgoing Committee for its tremendous support, noting that their contributions were deeply appreciated. He also voiced confidence that the incoming Committee would build on this strong foundation and help ensure compliance with the requirements of the PFM Act. He further assured that Management remains committed to supporting the new Committee in strengthening internal controls.
In his acceptance remarks, the Chairman of the Audit Committee, Mr. Anthony Baidoo, stated that members are committed to supporting Management’s efforts and, collectively, will work in the best interest of the institution and the country.
In a speech delivered on behalf of the Acting Director-General of the IAA, Mr. Fuseini outlined the statutory responsibilities of the Audit Committee, including ensuring that Management implements recommendations from internal and external audit reports as well as other mandatory reports. He also highlighted ongoing public sector reforms, such as the Commitment Compliance Checklist (CCC), and encouraged the Committee to match or surpass the commendable work of its predecessor.
