IAA SETS THE STANDARD: IAA INAUGURATES UPSA AUDIT COMMITTEE

On 15th January 2026, the Acting Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency (IAA), Mr. Thomas A. Thompson-Aryee, administered the oath of office to the Audit Committee of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).

The ceremony was graced by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor; the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Selase Asamoah; and the Registrar, Mrs. Lorraine Buerkie Gyan.

In his opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor noted that the Audit Committee has been instrumental in the University’s success, particularly through its peer review of all aspects of the institution’s operations. He commended the outgoing Committee for its significant contributions and urged the incoming members to build on this strong foundation by utilizing their expertise to elevate the University to even greater heights.

In his address, Mr. Thompson-Aryee alluded to ongoing reforms, including the introduction of the Commitment Authorization by the Ministry of Finance, which requires heads of public institutions to obtain approval for procurement transactions that exceed the approval limits of the Entity Tender Committee.

He further informed the meeting that Internal Auditors are required to submit the Commitment Compliance Checklist Review Report (CCCRR) to the Internal Audit Agency on a quarterly basis for onward transmission to the Ministry of Finance. He concluded by emphasizing that heads of institutions are not permitted to commit government funds based on budgetary allocations, but strictly within approved cash ceilings.

In closing, Prof. Mawutor reaffirmed Management’s commitment to supporting the work of the Committee.
