The Minister for Finance, Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson, inaugurated the Internal Audit Agency (IAA) Governing Board at the Ministry’s Conference Room on 11th June, 2026. The ceremony marked the constitution of the Agency’s new oversight Board, chaired by Professor Joshua Yindenaba Abor.
In his address, Dr. Forson congratulated Board members on their appointment on behalf of the President of the Republic of Ghana. He also underscored the critical role of internal auditing in public financial management and the safeguarding of state resources. He raised concerns over recurring financial infractions highlighted in the Auditor-General’s reports, attributing them partly to weak internal control systems. The Minister warned that such challenges continue to undermine public confidence in the management of state funds and disrupt the effectiveness of the internal audit function.
He further called for urgent reforms to reposition the Internal Audit Agency through strategic rebranding and capacity strengthening of internal auditors. According to him, there is the need to sharpen professional skills, reinforce compliance with the Public Financial Management (PFM) Act, and develop stronger internal control structures. He assured the Board of government’s continued support, particularly in providing the necessary resources to enhance the effectiveness and impact of internal auditing.
The Chief Director of the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Patrick Nomo, reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring that audit findings are taken seriously and translated into corrective action across public institutions. He also highlighted the importance of professionalism among internal auditors in strengthening accountability systems.
In remarks attributed to the President and delivered through the Minister, it was noted that the effectiveness of the IAA Governing Board would be central to reducing infractions flagged by the Auditor-General, with audit reports expected to reflect and reinforce the work of the Agency.
In his acceptance remarks, Board Chairman Prof. Joshua Yindenaba Abor reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to advancing value for money in public expenditure and strengthening internal control systems across government institutions. He assured the meeting of the Board’s resolve to enhance compliance and promote transparency and accountability in public financial management.
The nine-member Governing Board comprises Prof Joshua Yindenaba Abor (Chairman), Thomas A.
