On 18th June 2026, the Deputy Director-General (FASS) of the Internal Audit Agency, Mr. Bismark Aborbi-Ayitey, acting on behalf of the Director-General, Mr. Thomas A. Thompson-Aryee, inaugurated the newly constituted Audit Committee of the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment (MLJE). The ceremony was graced by the Hon. Minister for the Ministry, Dr. Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, and the Chief Director, Mr. Hamidu Adakurugu, Esq.
In his opening remarks, Hon. Hassan described the inauguration as a significant step towards strengthening governance, transparency, accountability, and financial prudence within the Ministry. He stated that the swearing-in ceremony signifies the commencement of a renewed commitment to doing things the right way at MLJE. He urged the Committee to diligently review audit reports, ensure the implementation of recommendations and compliance with relevant laws, and support efforts to prevent the Ministry from appearing before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). He further assured members of Management’s support in the execution of their mandate.
Delivering his address, the Deputy Director-General (FASS), Mr. Bismark Aborbi-Ayitey, emphasized the critical role of collaboration between management and the Audit Committee in achieving effective oversight. He noted that the Committee’s work is essential to safeguarding public resources, strengthening internal controls, and supporting ongoing public financial management reforms, while assuring members of the Agency’s support through orientation and capacity-building initiatives.
In his closing remarks, the Minister for MLJE emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to collaborating closely with the Audit Committee to strengthen its governance and accountability framework. He further expressed optimism that the institution’s dedication to implementing audit recommendations would serve as a model for other ministries to emulate.
