IAA and EU Strengthen Internal Audit Capacity Through Specialised Training

The Internal Audit Agency (IAA), in partnership with the European Union (EU), organised a two-day capacity-building training programme for Heads of Internal Audit Units from selected Covered Entities.

The training focused on IPSAS/IFRS (S1 & S2) and GIAS – Domain IV: Managing the Internal Audit Function, equipping participants with relevant knowledge and practical insights to enhance the effectiveness and professionalism of internal audit functions within their respective institutions.

The training, held from 29th to 30th September 2026, was conducted concurrently across four zones: Tamale, Kumasi, Takoradi, and Koforidua. The Greater Accra Regional event is scheduled to take place from 5th to 6th October 2026.

The Takoradi programme was opened by Mr. Alhassan Fuseini, Deputy Director PMCU, on behalf of the Ag. Director-General, Mr. Conrad Z. Dumbah.  He described the initiative as an opportunity for participants to enhance their personal development. He expressed confidence in the capacity and expertise of the resource persons and encouraged participants to fully engage with the sessions and make the most of the knowledge and insights being shared.

At the Kumasi training, the Deputy Director-General in charge of Finance, Administration and Support Services (FASS), Mr. Bismark Aborbi-Ayitey, represented the Director-General.

Across the other zones, the training was also supported by key institutional representatives. In Tamale, Madam Philomina Duodo, a member of the IAA’s Quality Assurance team supporting the training, delivered the opening remarks. The Director of Operations, Mr. Seth Anaglate, also delivered remarks on behalf of the Director-General, while Mr. Mohammed Haruna delivered a message on behalf of the Northern Regional Minister. The Northern Regional Director of Audit, Mr. Abdulai Saani, welcomed participants to the training.

In Koforidua, the sessions were facilitated by Mr. Senanu K. Mensah, Director of the TRME Directorate and Mr. Anthony Baidoo, Head of Finance and Corporate Planning. The programme forms part of ongoing efforts by the IAA and its partners to strengthen the capacity of internal audit professionals and enhance the effectiveness of internal audit functions within Covered Entities.
