AUDIT COMMITTEE OF THE ACCRA COLLEGE OF EDUCATION INAUGURATED

On Thursday, 4th July 2024, Mr. Senanu Mensah, a Deputy Director of the Internal Audit Agency, inaugurated the Audit Committee of the Accra College of Education on behalf of the Director-General.

In his opening address, the Principal of the College, Dr. Samuel Awinkene Atintono warmly welcomed the Committee members and noted that the Committee was the third Audit Committee of the College. He commended the Director-General of the Agency for his guidance and support.

Mr. Mensah, addressing the forum, read the Director-General’s speech. He highlighted the three key functions of the Audit Committee as Mandatory, Advisory and Supporting.

Mr. Mensah clarified that the mandatory role required members to ensure the implementation of audit recommendations in Internal Audit reports, External Audit reports and recommendations from the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament if any. The Committee, he said, is also to assist the College in establishing robust internal controls for effective management of its resources. Mr. Mensah also informed the Committee of its mandatory requirement to submit an Annual report to the Presidency, Parliament, Auditor- General and the Director-General of the Agency on its activities in the College.

Regarding the advisory role, Mr. Mensah emphasized the preventive aspect of Internal Auditing and the importance of the Audit Committee in implementing Enterprise Risk Management within its internal audit processes to mitigate risks. He encouraged members of the Committee to bring their expertise to bear and support the College to achieve its mandate.

He extended his sincere appreciation to the Audit Committee members for their willingness to serve on the Committee and wished them a fruitful tenure.

The inauguration concluded with remarks from the Audit Committee Chair, who thanked God and the members for their support. He expressed his keen interest in helping the College and Ghana obtain value for money and added that the Committee would work within the ambit of the law. He urged Management to support the Committee and encouraged co-opted members and attendees to effectively cooperate during meetings.

The members of the Committee are Mr. Ernest Konadu-Abassah (Chairman and IAA Rep), Ms. Meline Pretsi (IAA Rep), Mr. Alex Amoako-Asumeng (ICAG Rep) Dr. Christian Addo-Proku and Prof. Christopher Adjei Okpoti are representative to the College Council.
