Mr. Thomas A. Thompson-Aryee, Ag. Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency (IAA) on 18th July, 2025, inaugurated the Audit Committee of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, Ghana (CIB,Ghana). Togbe Asiama Krakani V, Vice-President of the Institute was the Chairperson of the inauguration. Present at the event was the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Robert Dzato and members of the previous Committee.
In his opening remarks, the Chief Executive Officer said CIB, Ghana is mandated under the CIB, Ghana Act 2019, Act 991 to promote the study of banking and regulate the practice of the banking through developing trusted professionals. He acknowledged the work of the outgoing Committee in ensuring internal controls at the institution are working. He assured the meeting that Management is committed to working with the incoming Committee to deliver on the institution’s mandate.
Members of the Committee are Mr. Henry K. Sain (IAA Rep and Chairman), Ms. Bernice Lamptey (IAA Rep), Mrs. Myra S. Yeboaa Ansah (ICAG Rep), Dr. Stephen Hammond and Mr. Franklin Attiana are representatives of the CIB, Ghana Governing Board. Mr. Walter K. Awuah is Secretary to the Committee.
The Ag. Director-General of the IAA outlined the mandatory and advisory roles of the Committee. He made mention of the Guidelines on Effective Audit Committees and urged members to familiarize themselves with it. He also hinted on reforms in the financial management space and the issuance of the Commitment Control Compliance Checklist (CCCC) by the Ministry of Finance. He further talked about the commitment approval that must be obtained for procurement thresholds that require approval by the Central Review Tender Committee (CRTC).
Mr. Dzato in his closing remarks, thanked the outgoing Committee and welcomed the incoming one. He intimated that he was looking forward to working with the new Committee and added that success is collective and the national agenda is important. He concluded by saying that what the Institute does is decoded in solving Africa’s human resource needs with trusted professionals.
