The Ministry of Defence (MoD) inaugurated a new Audit Committee with a strong charge from the Acting Minister for Defence, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, to safeguard public resources and ensure the Ministry remains compliant with sound financial management practices.
Addressing the Committee at its swearing-in ceremony on Friday, 28th November 2025, Dr. Forson stressed the need for stricter oversight, noting that recent nationwide audits had uncovered “avoidable and troubling” breaches in public financial management. He cautioned that such lapses undermine public confidence in state institutions and pose risks to democratic governance.
The six-member Committee is chaired by Joseph Frederick Odartey Blankson, former President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana. Other members include Patrick Vug Nanke, Gloria Dami-Baah, Brigadier General Ben Gah, former Commander of the 15 Armoured Brigade, and Dominic Agyemang.
Dr. Forson urged the Committee to lead with integrity, vigilance, and professionalism, ensuring that the Ministry does not feature in future Auditor-General’s reports for financial infractions. He emphasized that the Committee’s work is critical to strengthening accountability, improving internal controls, and upholding the public’s trust in the Ministry.
The inauguration marked a renewed commitment by the MoD to bolster transparency and enhance the effectiveness of its financial governance systems.
