On behalf of Dr. E.O. Osae, Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency, Mr. Hayford- Dowuona-Hammond inaugurated the Audit Committee of the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) in their Board Room on Thursday, July 4, 2024.
Mr. Okyere-Fosu, the Director-General of NITA warmly welcomed all to NITA and stated the importance of Audit Committees. He thanked Management for their consistent support to the Audit Committee and highlighted his interest in the institution’s performance. He added that the outgoing Audit Committee, being the first for NITA, has been significantly beneficial to the organization which is undergoing significant structural development changes.
Addressing the forum, Mr. Dowuona-Hammond detailed the three primary roles of the Audit Committee as specified by the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921) as Mandatory, Advisory and Supporting.
He explained that the mandatory role involves assisting the institution in establishing robust internal controls to ensure efficiency and effectiveness. Additionally, the committee is mandated to submit an Annual report on its activities to the Office of the President, Parliament, the Auditor-General and the Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency.
On the advisory role, he emphasized the importance of proactive problem prevention through internal auditing and aiding the institution in implementing Enterprise Risk Management to mitigate risks.
Mr. Dowuona-Hammond spoke on the importance of supporting the Internal Audit Unit and Management in fulfilling its objectives and expressed his gratitude to the Audit Committee members for their commitment to serve and encouraged Management to give them the needed support.
The Audit Committee Chairman, Mr. Fiifi Kwakye, thanked the members of the Committee for voting him to chair the committee. He emphasized the importance of NITA and shared his experience and role as a Board member of the Agency and assured the committee that he brings valuable expertise to the table.
Members of the Audit Committee are Fiifi Kwakye (Chairman, IAA Rep), Mr. Quatada Mohammed (IAA Rep) and Mr. Owusu Afriyie Prempeh (ICAG). Madam Matilda Acheampong Wilson is a representative of NITA and Marinnne Afram Pedua is the Secretary to the committee.
