AG. DG ENGAGES WITH STAFF OF THE TFO AND FASS DIVISIONS

The Ag. Director-General, Mr. T.A. Thompson-Aryee engaged with staff of the Technical and Field Operations (TFO) and Technical, Research, Monitoring and Evaluation (TRME) on 20th May, 2025 and staff of the Finance, Administration and Support Service (FASS) on 21st May, 2025 respectively. The purpose of the meeting was to bring staff up to speed on changes in the Agency and to share the new management’s vision which is the improvement of staff welfare conditions and that of the internal audit practice.

Mr. Thompson-Aryee informed the meeting that the Departments are moving away from the paper review and acknowledgement of reports to a paperless one in order to create physical space and reduce the cost of using paper. He intimated that he has delegated the acknowledgement of reports and work plans to the Directors, Operation and TRME

The Ag. The Director-General mentioned that the yearly monitoring and evaluation of Internal Audit Units (IAUs) will be replaced with the monitoring of action plans to ensure prompt assessment of audit recommendations. This, he emphasised, will be done on a quarterly basis. He said he was counting on Departmental/Unit Heads to provide the list of Covered Entities that will have to be monitored in the Greater Accra Region. In the case of the other regions, the Ag. Director-General stated that he will seek the input of the Departmental Heads on how to carry out the monitoring.

Mr. Thompson-Aryee continued that he has reassigned some staff to ensure efficiency in the operations of the Agency. The reassignment exercise has led to the re-introduction of the On-site training support and Special Assignment Units under the direction of the Deputy Director-General in charge of Finance, Administration and Support Services (FASS). He pointed out that the On-site training support Unit will assist in the capacity building of staff of IAUs. He added that the Special Assignment Unit was re-introduced to execute two main mandates which are, to follow up on Covered Entities which do not submit quarterly reports and to execute any other activity upon request to the Agency.

Touching on the Defaulters’ List, the Ag.  Director-General stressed that it will be compiled by the Directors in charge of Operation and TRME but unlike previously, it will not be published in the newspapers or on the Agency’s website. He explained that a list of defaulting institutions under the Office of Local Government Service (OHLGS), Office of the Head of Civil Service (OHCS), GTEC and SIGA will be compiled and submitted to their parent organisations, the Ministry of Finance (MoF) and Office of the President for action.

Mr. Thompson-Aryee speaking on solving the issue of shortage of staff mentioned that plans are underway to seek financial clearance to regularise graduate trainees in the Agency.

Also speaking on staff welfare, the Ag. Director-General stated that Management has taken a series of decisions that will lead to the betterment of staff.

The Ag. DG further informed staff of the two Departments that the Agency is currently sponsoring ten (10) staff on certification programmes in CISA and ERM with assistance from GIZ.
