Steering Accountability: IAA Inaugurates Audit Committee of NAS

Mr. Bismark Aborbi-Ayitey, Deputy Director-General responsible for Finance, Administration and Support Services (FASS), inaugurated the Audit Committee of the National Ambulance Service (NAS) on 10th June 2026 on behalf of the Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency (IAA), Mr. Thomas Thompson-Aryee.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by Mr. Mohammed Mohamin, Chief Internal Auditor of the Service, who introduced the invited guests and members of the Audit Committees.

In his address, Mr. Aborbi-Ayitey congratulated members of the newly sworn-in committee and expressed confidence in their ability to discharge their mandate effectively. He highlighted the important role of Audit Committees in strengthening governance systems and minimising control weaknesses that could expose public institutions to irregularities. He also called for the cooperation and support of management to effectively facilitate the Committee’s oversight responsibilities.

Following the inauguration, the Committee elected Prof. Kwame Boasiako Omane-Antwi as Chairperson. In his acceptance remarks, Prof. Antwi pledged to work with members to build a strong legacy of effective oversight and support the NAS in addressing its institutional challenges. Outgoing Chairman, Mr. Kena Ofori-Atta, also encouraged the new Committee to build on the achievements of the previous committee and continue adding value to the Service.

In his closing remarks, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Ambulance Service, Dr. George Kojo Owusu, commended the outgoing Committee for its dedicated service and contributions to accountability and good governance. He also charged the new Committee to continue the good work of its predecessors in supporting the progress and development of the Service.
